We aren’t the greatest cooks, but really do enjoy trying something a little different. We had seen these biscotti biscuits made on the TV last week and decided to give it a go. Turned out to be very successful!

We are great fans of Masterchef and watch every episode. Last night, Marcus Wareing set the contestants a challenge to cook a traditional Croque Monsieur – essentially a cooked ham, cheese and cheese sauce sandwich, so I decided to have a go and try it myself tonight. Remembering the method from last night it didn’t turn out too badly…

It’s become a tradition in our house that we make chutney every year just before Christmas. We enjoy it with cold meat and cheese, but it makes a welcome home-made gift for friends. We also make flavoured vodka and gin, but that’s another story…

The weather hasn’t been good enough today for our planned BBQ, but that didn’t stop us having the food we planned – sausage kebabs with peppers, tomatoes and home-grown courgettes. Whereas most folks would just randomly pile the elements on to the skewers, in our house it’s an exercise in precision assembly – note the symmetry!

I usually make bread in the bread making machine – it’s just a question of popping the ingredients in, switching the machine on, and there’s a decent loaf of bread two hours later. No artificial ingredients and it tastes better than shop bread. Today I decided to make bread rolls – not bad for a first attempt – maybe a bit on the large side and with wholemeal flour perhaps a little ‘heavy’. Definitely edible though…

We had these two monkeys staying with us overnight, and for supper they were making their own pizzas. Total carnage in the kitchen!

This young lady was off school today with hay fever, and spent the day with us as her Mummy was working. One thing she loves is baking!
