Day 309 – Whatever Next…?

Its about this time of year that we see Advent Calendars for sale – traditionally 24 small doors hiding chocolate treats, one for each day in December before Christmas Day. In recent years a desire to widen the customer base has seen versions with small bottles of gin or wine behind the doors, but this version, a CHEESE Advent Calendar really takes the biscuit…

Day 304 – Halloween, Finally…

When we were younger, Halloween didn’t amount to much at all. Although its origins are in Irish folklore, it’s only the relatively recent influences from the USA that have made it what it is today. It’s big business now, with costumes (seemingly for adults as well as kids) and all manner of mostly plastic ‘stuff’ for decoration. This is my daughter’s house today!

Day 296 – A Spot Of Colour…

We are never going to see autumn colours here to rival those in New England, but they are pretty impressive nevertheless. This tree is just a mile or so from home and the best of the colours are coming through now …

Day 293 – The Real Thing…

Although I read the odd book on holiday, and little otherwise, my wife positively devours books – sometimes 2 or 3 in a week. We both have Kindle e-readers, which are fantastically useful on holiday, but overall she prefers ‘real’ books. This is our bookcase at home – most of the books here are waiting to be read as we usually give them away when finished…

Day 292 – Casting Some Light…

At our local doctor’s today for my annual flu injection, I was taken by this glass window feature. High up in the side wall of the surgery it allows a soft light to fall on patients below. A monochrome treatment renders it as an abstract pattern.
