There’s a definite chill in the air these mornings, even when we are fortunate enough to get sunshine later, and the leaves have started to change colour already. I don’t mind the autumn (fall), but not looking forward to winter!

Although Daisy is only 10 years old, she’s super keen on all things sporty and was delighted to be chosen for the school soccer team. It was their first competitive match, and although they played a more experienced team, managed a creditable 1:1 draw. Daisy had a good game!

The weather hasn’t been good enough today for our planned BBQ, but that didn’t stop us having the food we planned – sausage kebabs with peppers, tomatoes and home-grown courgettes. Whereas most folks would just randomly pile the elements on to the skewers, in our house it’s an exercise in precision assembly – note the symmetry!

When we moved to the area a few years ago, The Countess’s Arms was a lively and successful pub/restaurant. A change of ownership apparently lead to its demise, and it’s been closed and abandoned for almost 10 years now. There were suggestions it might be refurbished and open again, but a serious fire a couple of months ago looks to have put paid to that…

This is one of my favourite places – Penmon Point on Anglesey. Approached down a long and narrow toll road just outside Beaumaris, it has a stony beach, a couple of fisherman’s cottages, a quaint little cafe, and of course this lighthouse. At low tide you can get right to the base of the lighthouse, but at other times the waves make for great long exposure photos.

Usually when I’m taking photos of waterfalls, I shoot a longish exposure with my camera on a tripod. With just my phone with me, I improvised by using a long exposure app and supporting the phone against a railing. It just about gets away with it …

I usually make bread in the bread making machine – it’s just a question of popping the ingredients in, switching the machine on, and there’s a decent loaf of bread two hours later. No artificial ingredients and it tastes better than shop bread. Today I decided to make bread rolls – not bad for a first attempt – maybe a bit on the large side and with wholemeal flour perhaps a little ‘heavy’. Definitely edible though…

Somehow I got talked into hosting a gin and cocktail evening for some of my wife’s friends… Not wanting to disappoint them, I had all the ingredients and gear set out well in advance. I’m no Tom Cruise, but I can make a mean Pornstar Martini!

When I was a kid and had to go to the dentist, my mom would take me afterwards to a cake shop and buy me whatever I wanted as a treat. I figured today’s visit to the dentist deserved a treat, so it was brunch at Costa Coffee…

First time out for a while with my ‘real’ camera (as opposed to my smartphone) so decided to try Ramshaw Rocks, a place I know well, and just an hour or so from home. The sunset didn’t disappoint…
