These two figures guard the entrance to the Greek Orthodox Church in Fira, Santorini. They sit very high in the air and appear to look down on people passing by. Positioning them in front of the huge church roof in the photo exaggerates their scale.

I’ve seen lots of photos of Greece with the blue or white colour of church roofs, but I was still surprised at just how vibrant the colours are when set against a clear blue sky. This is another church in Fira, the main city in Santorini.
One thing that Greece (and the Greek islands) is famous for are the little churches with their blue roofs. It’s hard to travel more than a few yards in any small town without coming across one. Set against the almost permanent blue sky, they make an attractive picture.
