The little railway project I have been working on for the last few months is taking shape with the addition of background boards. There’s still a way to go, with some running issues to be sorted out, and some more work on scenery.

Weather today was shocking – torrential rain for hours, but it cleared as we were driving home after spending lunchtime and the afternoon with friends, and we were treated to an excellent sunset. This was just a mile or so from home…

It’s a few years now (2012) since we did any serious running, but we plan to build up to at least 5km (3 miles approx) through the autumn. We are following a plan called c25km (couch to 5km), starting with just 1 minute runs, followed by same time walking. It builds up sharply though!

After another day of changeable weather, it looked like we might get a reasonable end to the day, then the clouds rolled in… The rain held off for a while, but then the inevitable downpour came.

Early autumn has seen some quite warm, as well as rather wet days, and this has lead to a bumper crop of mushrooms in the hedgerows around here. I’m sure some are edible, but there’s no way I’ll be trying them without expert advice…

I was called for Jury Service some 20 years ago, but was discharged from service on the first day as they had a surplus of jurors. This summons came out of the blue, and I doubt I will be as lucky this time. Not that I mind ‘doing my bit’ for justice, but I wouldn’t want to get caught up in a very long running trial in the run up to Christmas holidays.

This is apparently a Sedum plant – it dies back through the winter, but comes back bigger and brighter in the spring. It started as a couple of small plants and now fills the front of some of the garden borders.

Isabelle was in her first stage show this week – in the choir/chorus in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Bearing in mind she only started drama coaching a few months ago, this was a pretty impressive achievement and we were super proud of her!

There’s a definite chill in the air these mornings, even when we are fortunate enough to get sunshine later, and the leaves have started to change colour already. I don’t mind the autumn (fall), but not looking forward to winter!

Although Daisy is only 10 years old, she’s super keen on all things sporty and was delighted to be chosen for the school soccer team. It was their first competitive match, and although they played a more experienced team, managed a creditable 1:1 draw. Daisy had a good game!
