On a dry summer’s day, the canal towpath at Audlem would be heaving with people. As well as locals (many of them dog-walkers) there would be lots of tourists too, but today’s wet and windy weather kept them all away.
This was the sun coming up at the ungodly hour of 530am today. With no trains running over the Bank Holiday, our weekend guests needed to catch the 622am train back to London in time for work today… I’m up early most days, but not usually this early!
This is the view from the top of Wenlock Edge, looking out towards Shrewsbury. With a few friends from the local tennis club, we enjoyed a 7 mile ‘sociable’ walk this morning – a gentle pace, with plenty of time for chatting. And then a visit to the local pub for refreshments! It may be the end of the soccer season, but it’s also pretty much the end of the bluebell season around here. Yes, there are still quite a few around (overall it’s been one of the best bluebell seasons for years…) but the colour is fading fast. Probably my last day out photographing them this year…

Bluebells are typically around for about three weeks here, but the rather changeable weather has already battered them somewhat – I don’t expect them to be at their peak for more than another week at best. All of which encouraged me to get out and photograph bluebells at a different location today, while I still could.
Living in the country has its challenges, especially if you are in a hurry. On the way home today we found our way blocked by some of our local farmer’s 700 odd Friesian cows crossing the road on the way to milking. No problem today as we weren’t on a tight schedule, but there have been times when the 10-15 mins holdup while they cross has been a real pain…
