With a bedroom looking out towards the Berlin TV Tower, our hotel was a perfect spot for a nighttime photo. A mini tripod on the windowsill and a long exposure were all that was needed to capture the light trails from the passing traffic.

More mushrooms… It’s that time of the year – a combination of damp but still moderately mild weather that causes an explosion of fungi all around. We get them in the lawn and flower beds, and further afield, in the hedgerows and fields. I’m sure some are edible, but I don’t have a clue!

Well, not really – we arrived back at Heathrow Terminal 5 tonight, and these are the lights in the ceiling of the baggage claim area. They look better in mono than colour…

This mini-market in Oia, Santorini has seen better days. Given the up market touristy nature of the area (its where thousands flock every night to see the sunset), it’s surprising to see derelict buildings. Unless of course it’s been deliberately run down so it can be redeveloped into swish accommodation. Always a possibility…

It’s the end of the day, and almost the end of our holiday in Santorini – we go home on Thursday. We’ve had several good sunsets, but this one, shot from our hotel room balcony, is pretty epic.

These two figures guard the entrance to the Greek Orthodox Church in Fira, Santorini. They sit very high in the air and appear to look down on people passing by. Positioning them in front of the huge church roof in the photo exaggerates their scale.

I’ve seen lots of photos of Greece with the blue or white colour of church roofs, but I was still surprised at just how vibrant the colours are when set against a clear blue sky. This is another church in Fira, the main city in Santorini.

This mannequin took centre stage in a fashion shop in Oia, and I loved the way the late afternoon sun highlighted her plaster features. Loved the way she was posed for dramatic effect too…

One thing that Greece (and the Greek islands) is famous for are the little churches with their blue roofs. It’s hard to travel more than a few yards in any small town without coming across one. Set against the almost permanent blue sky, they make an attractive picture.

Nothing beats that feeling when you disembark your plane on holiday and feel that warm sun on your face! It’s October, and late in the afternoon, but it’s still beautiful here in Santorini – looking forward to a relaxing week…
