Beware of Christmas office parties… Just don’t let your hair down too much!

Beware of Christmas office parties… Just don’t let your hair down too much!

We are great fans of Masterchef and watch every episode. Last night, Marcus Wareing set the contestants a challenge to cook a traditional Croque Monsieur – essentially a cooked ham, cheese and cheese sauce sandwich, so I decided to have a go and try it myself tonight. Remembering the method from last night it didn’t turn out too badly…

Camera, that is. I’ve had a 35mm film camera for a while now (a lovely Olympus OM2N) but it’s not really pocket friendly, so it doesn’t get out much. I’d picked up a mint Trip 35, but that’s fairly basic – pretty much point and press, so was on the lookout for something small, but capable of good results. So this little Olympus XA presented itself – seems to be in good condition and has a coupled rangefinder and aperture settings, so let’s see how it performs.

After several weeks of persistent wet weather, a clear spell yesterday meant a really cold start to today, with mist and a ground frost. With fields all around us, it took only a moment to find a spot to shoot the early morning light.

It was Remembrance Day last week, but today was the first chance since then for me to pop up to our local Garden of Remembrance to see the poppy wreaths laid in honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Very moving.

Just what we need for our Christmas tree – baubles filled with gin! But isn’t there a problem with that? – surely we will want to drink the gin well before 12th night, when the Christmas decorations come down? Indeed, would the baubles even last on the tree until Christmas? lol

Every year now, John Lewis run a Christmas TV advert, usually featuring a soft toy. My wife is a sucker for these, and of course, as we have two granddaughters, she always buys two of the said toys, even though they are probably getting a little old for such things. Ah well…

It was pretty windy today, and I was taken by how much the leaves on our driveway were being blown around.

… after all these years. Dating back to the 16th Century, Moreton Corbet Hall has seen some history… It’s just a shell now, but for several hundred years was an imposing family home of the local aristocracy.

It’s become a tradition in our house that we make chutney every year just before Christmas. We enjoy it with cold meat and cheese, but it makes a welcome home-made gift for friends. We also make flavoured vodka and gin, but that’s another story…
