Sunday evening motorway traffic. Some going home I guess after a weekend trip away, and more still heading back to the cities ready for work early tomorrow.

Day 197 – High & Dry…
This spot, Meols, on the Wirral Peninsula, is the closest sea to us. It’s about 75 miles away, or an hour and a quarter by car. I’d seen photos of the boats stranded there at low tide, but hadn’t realized that what looks like a sandy beach is actually rather nasty black sludge, definitely not for walking on! So the only photo I could take was from the concrete slipway, but at least the sunset was good…
Day 194 – Still Going Strong…
This is my Olympus OM2n 35mm film camera. I had one ‘in the day’ (around 1979-1980) but it was a bit battered and I sold it long ago. I picked this beautiful example up a couple of years ago and reckon I will never part with it – it’s in pretty much mint condition, came with 28mm and 135mm lenses as well as the 50mm, and even has the original box! Must get out and use it more…

Day 193 – Yummy…!
We both added a few extra pounds due to excellent food while we were on holiday, so it’s time to start eating healthily again… This tasted better than perhaps it looks in the photo – a halloumi cheese salad with nectarines, pine nuts and a sweet dressing.
Day 192 – Black And White…
I’ve always had a soft spot for VW camper vans, and this one is a classic! Totally over the top in terms of customization, it was drawing crowds at a recent show. To be fair, the latest VWs are far more practical, but you can’t beat this for looks!
Day 191 – Pretty As A Picture…
A view from the bridge over the canal nearby, this reminds me very much of a Constable painting, archetypally England on a Summer’s day.
Day 190 – Stairway To Heaven…?
Well, perhaps not – this would have been the fire escape from this old building here in town. The building is still in use, but fortunately not the upper floors, as I wouldn’t want to rely on this rusty relic in an emergency!
Day 189 – An Unlikely Choice…
‘Merry Mole’ wine? – you have to be kidding! No this is straight up – the waiter’s recommendation at dinner tonight at the hotel we are staying at with friends in Cheshire. And actually, although I’ve never had wine before from Moldova, it wasn’t bad at all. Long live moles!
Day 188 – What To Choose…?
I’ve been a member of the Royal Photographic Society for some years now, and finally decided I would like to sit their Licentiate assessment – success confirms a reasonable competence in photographic skills. Assessment entails submitting a panel of 10 images to the committee for review, so the first step is to choose some potential photos – they need to be technically perfect, and show a variety of subjects and techniques. So I’m drawing up a short list of photos to consider…

Day 187 – Standing Like Soldiers…
Even though we cut them right down each autumn, these beautiful Verbena plants pop up just the same the following year. One of many strains, these ones are apparently named Verbena Bonariensis and grow to about 1m tall. They do seem to attract butterflies too…
