Not a crop we see around these parts very often, these potato plants were doing very well, helped along by some milder and wetter weather. I was struck by the geometric straight lines

Although ostensibly we installed these swings in the garden for our two granddaughters, I suspect they also fulfilled a long term ambition of my wife to have something she never had as a child… Anyway, they all get pleasure from them, so that’s the main thing I reckon.
Despite my best efforts, our lawn has a fair crop of dandelions already this year. Their seed heads only last for a day at most, so an opportunistic shot before the seeds are blown away.
Our local farmer has a store area where he keeps ‘bits and pieces’ (aka junk) that might ‘come in handy’ one day… These were some large Belfast style sinks formerly used as drinking troughs, but now replaced. I wonder how long they will stay there…
Pushing the sliders all the way in Lightroom shows what can (and probably shouldn’t) be done with images – I prefer a more natural look.
Bluebells are typically around for about three weeks here, but the rather changeable weather has already battered them somewhat – I don’t expect them to be at their peak for more than another week at best. All of which encouraged me to get out and photograph bluebells at a different location today, while I still could.
A cheeky little snack tonight before supper – beef carpaccio with rocket leaves, parmesan and lime and garlic oil dressing. What’s not to like! Just wish there had been more…
The extremely hot summer last year not only caused low grass yields for farmers, but has left meadows in poor condition this year. Several of our local dairy farmers have had to plough up meadows this year and plant with maize to give the ground chance to recover.
Living in the country has its challenges, especially if you are in a hurry. On the way home today we found our way blocked by some of our local farmer’s 700 odd Friesian cows crossing the road on the way to milking. No problem today as we weren’t on a tight schedule, but there have been times when the 10-15 mins holdup while they cross has been a real pain…
So VW have decided that the ‘Beetle’ will finally cease production in the next month or so – 70 odd years since production of the original model. To be fair, the current model only really shares it’s styling with the original – now, it’s a VW Golf under the skin, and isn’t even produced in Germany – Beetles have been built in Mexico for many years now. We had a convertible Beetle 10 years or so ago and loved it, so it will be a sad day for us when the last one rolls off the production line…
