Popped into our local greeting card shop today and was shocked to see they already have Christmas cards for sale! Can’t believe that in the height of the summer, we are already being assailed by seasonal commercialism…

As part of a larger tidy-up project we are doing at home, I tidied and sorted our drinks cupboard out. Having reduced the number of different gin bottles I had from a rather excessive 35 down to just over 20 I was able to get them, and my modest whisky collection, all in one cupboard. And I came across a few I had forgotten about!

I was awake even earlier than usual this morning and around 6am saw that the light was promising. Grabbed shoes and my camera and walked the few yards to the farm gate nearby. Just time to snatch a few shots before the sun came up fully and the beautiful colours disappeared.

With good weather forecast for this evening, I was looking forward to an hour or so of sunset photography in Chester while my wife was visiting friends nearby. I spent the afternoon building some new steps in the garden to replace some that had rotted away. Serious construction work with the structure made from 8”x 2” timber. Thank goodness for some decent power tools! Just an hour or so I reckon tomorrow to finish it off …

This 1959 Mini has clearly seen better days, but nevertheless attracted a lot of attention at our local Festival of Transport held today.

We spent the day cleaning paving slabs and reorganizing our ‘coffee corner’ in the garden. It’s less cluttered and much more of a relaxing space now. Christened it with a cheeky gin and tonic tonight…

Another appalling day’s weather today – pretty much wall to wall heavy rain all day. At least the forecast for tomorrow is more promising…

You can’t argue with the logic or the sentiment, even if it wasn’t that warm today! Sign outside a pub in Newport, Shropshire.

Stokesay Castle near Ludlow is one of the finest surviving medieval fortified homes in England. It was built around 1285 by a wealthy local wool merchant, and remained in the same family for almost 400 years. It is currently owned by English Heritage and is open to the public.
