Day 25 – To Boldly Grow…

I’m not a fan of house plants – actually I really dislike them… However, at Christmas, my 90 year old aunt gave us an Amaryllis bulb, and it seemed to be the decent thing to do to plant it and see what happened. Well, against the odds, it did grow, and this is the second flush of flowers from it – pretty impressive from something so unloved…

Day 21 – Final Resting Place…

After a cloudy start to the morning, things brightened up as I drove through town, so I figured I could find some interesting detail in the local graveyard to set against the colourful sky. The wide angle (18mm) lens fitted to the iPhone allows for a more dramatic perspective.

Day 20 – It’s Showtime…

So today we took our 9 and 10 year old granddaughters to the tour version of Strictly Come Dancing – one of their Christmas gifts from us. Along with another 8000 fans in the audience in Birmingham, they absolutely loved it! We enjoyed it too, apart from the hour or so it took us to get out of the car park after the show…

Day 19 – A Wartime Relic…

These few rusted sheets of corrugated iron are all that remains of the former army camp at Prees, near Whitchurch. Originally a WW1 training camp, an airfield was also built nearby at the beginning of WW2, and it later became a Prisoner of War camp. After the war it served as housing for Polish refugees and army families before being closed and abandoned in the 1950s.

Day 18 – It’s Friday Night, so…

… it must be Cocktail Night! Whereas our early evening drink at home is usually a gin & tonic, Fridays are special, and that means cocktails! So what’s it to be tonight I wonder? – a champagne or prosecco cocktail, or maybe something exotic like a Porn Star Martini, a Whisky Sour or Long Island Iced Tea. Well, voting is over (I don’t have a vote, I just get to make the cocktails….) and it’s going to be a Gin Fizz tonight – gin, cherry brandy, lime juice and ginger beer, shaken not stirred of course. What’s not to like…

Day 17 – What’s Behind The Doors? …

Sometimes when I see an old locked up garage I wonder about the secrets it holds. Is there a beautifully restored vintage car in there, or just someone’s everyday transport, safely out of the weather? Is it full of sports and holiday gear waiting for summer or just a pile of old household rubbish to be sorted out? Maybe even something more mysterious? What do you think?

Day 16 – No Water Shortage Here…

Driving up to Doncaster today to see a relative in hospital, I decided to make a short detour to Lumsdale Falls on the edge of the Peak District. As seems usual each time I go there, it was raining, but this made for some nice highlights on the rocks. I took a few shots with my phone, but the Sony A7iii comes into it’s own with a subject like this.
